Village edge Wadadah 2-1
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Village United scored their biggest victory of the season on Sunday when they edged former champions Wadadah FC 2-1 in their Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League game at the Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Nicholas Falconer in the first half and Romando Anderson in the second half scored for the home team, as Wadadah FC lost back-to-back games in Trelawny in less than a week.
Last week the St James club was beaten 5-1 by newly promoted Salt Marsh United at Davis Pen.
Meanwhile, the feature clash between Savannah SC and Sandals Whitehouse at Frome was not played as only two of the three officials turned up for the game.
The other two games on Sunday ended in draws — Beaches Negril came back with two late goals against Salt Marsh, while Violet Kickers earned a point from Jericho Rangers.
Two games will be played today, Granville FC and Tomorrow’s People will meet at the Granville Community Centre, while Montego Bay Boys Club entertain Holland United at the UDC field.
Tomorrow’s People have not won in their last three games and will be desperate for full points, but will find a tough Granville team waiting on them.
On Sunday, Village United, one of just three unbeaten teams left in the competition, jumped into third place on nine points after Falconer scored in the 16th minute and Anderson added a second in the 84th minute.
Deron Wilson scored in time added on for Wadadah.
At Long Bay Beach Park in Negril, Salt Marsh United looked well on their way to a third consecutive win that would put them in third place when Omar Williams, in the 45th minute, and Travis Watson, in the 48th minute, gave them what looked to be a comfortable lead against the winless team.
Dervin Dixon pulled a goal back in the 75th minute and then Ryan Smith got the equaliser in the 87th minute to snatch a valuable point.
At Watson Taylor Park in Lucea, Orlando Seaton gave the home team Jericho Rangers the lead in the 27th minute, but Ryan Simms scored an equaliser three minutes into time added for Violet Kickers to snap a two-game losing skid.
