Police seize ganja worth $8.5m in St Elizabeth, burn field in St Andrew

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of approximately 1,700 pounds of ganja in St Elizabeth on Thursday as well as the burning of a ganja field and arrest of a man in Jacks Hill, St Andrew Friday.

In the first instance the Black River police say they seized the ganja, with an estimated street value of approximately J$8.5 million, at Bagdale Mountain in the parish.

Reports are that about midday, during an operation, an unused building was searched and the ganja found. No arrests were made in relation to the find.

And Friday morning officers from the St Andrew North Division destroyed a ganja field and arrested a man on Gravel Road in Jacks Hill.

The police say that a team of officers was on operation in the area about 6:00 am when they stumbled upon the ganja field which was subsequently burnt. The cops say they also seized approximately 200 pounds of ganja at the scene with a street value of approximately J$1 million.
