A lift for Bagdale Mountain
Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth — Residents of Bagdale Mountain, close to Thornton in the hills of north east St Elizabeth , are reaping the benefits of a community improvement programme funded by the Sugar Transformation Unit.
Audie Myers (PNP) councillor for the Siloah Division told Observer Central that a two-mile stretch of road from Thornton to Bagdale Mountain has been resurfaced at a cost of $28 million.
Additionally, electricity has been installed at the Bagdale Mountain Basic School. The school was built in 1994 but electricity was never connected, Myers explained.
Now, says Myers, as a result of electricity, staff and students will find their environment much more conducive to teaching and learning.
Crucially, two computers donated sometime ago to the basic school by the Digicel Foundation will now be utilised, Myers said.
“Residents, parents and students are very happy,” Myers told Observer Central.
