Police move to calm tensions ahead of Tesha Miller’s return
THE police say they will be keeping a close watch on communities in Spanish Town, St Catherine, in anticipation of the return of reputed leader of the Clansman gang, Tesha Miller.
The police disclosed yesterday that the 35-year-old Miller, who was convicted in the United States last year on a charge of illegal entry, will land in Jamaica on Monday.
The development has left some residents on edge.
“Heavy tension ah hang over several communities right now, but we just ah hope nothing don’t happen,” one woman told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
She was one of several residents who called on the police to increase their presence in known hotspots in the old capital.
But head of St Catherine North Police, Marlon Nesbeth, sought to assure residents that law and order will be maintained.
“Police are aware of this and other developments in the division and already systems have been put in place in the event,” Nesbeth told the Observer
News of Miller’s pending return comes less than a week after his brother, Craig Miller, was shot and killed at a premises on March Pen Road in Spanish Town.
Police said that 33-year-old Craig and others were at home at about 9:00 pm when gunmen invaded the premises and opened fire.
Craig and another man, who has since been identified as Oral Wright, were killed in the attack while a third person was injured.
Yesterday, the police said that a renewed bout of infighting between gangs had surfaced in Spanish Town.
