Scotiabank donates Electrosurgical Unit to Cornwall Regional Hospital
MONTEGO BAY, St James — In a show of its commitment to the people of Montego Bay, Scotiabank Jamaica has committed to donating a new Electrosurgical Unit to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Electrosurgical devices are frequently used during surgical operations helping to prevent blood loss in hospital operating rooms or in outpatient procedures.
“I am happy to announce tonight (last Wednesday) that we will be donating a piece of equipment, the Electrosurgical Unit, as we recognise the vast number of Jamaicans that are cared for by this hospital and are committed to working to make a difference in the lives of the people in Montego Bay,” promised Jacqueline Sharp, President and CEO of Scotiabank Jamaica.
Sharp made the announcement last week at the official opening of the Scotiabank’s Fairview Financial Centre in Montego Bay, St James.
Meanwhile, senior medical officer at the Cornwall Regional Hospital, Dr Delroy Fray, who was among the many Montegonians in attendance at the function, welcomed the additional piece of equipment to the hospital.
“Oh it’s a good gift. That machine is used while we are doing operation to help to minimise bleeding. So you don’t have to tie the blood vessels, you just use it to stop bleeding. It allows you to move really fast when you are doing an operation. So it’s a very good piece of machine to our hospital,” Dr Fray told the Jamaica Observer West.
Bruce Bowen, Caribbean’s regional head of Scotiabank, who hails Montego Bay as a strong market for Scotia, also expressed that the tourism resort city is among the three major business hubs across the Caribbean.
“If you go across the Caribbean there are only two other places I know that appear to be economically booming like Montego Bay; Cayman is one of them and you get a little bit of that in St Martin as well and I think that shows the vibrancy of the economy, the vibrancy of the people and the entrepreneurs in this area. And so it is with that perspective, how strong a market this is, both for the country and for Scotiabank, Jamaica, that I am really pleased to be here,” Bowen remarked.
Meanwhile, Sharp also underscored the importance of Montego Bay to Scotia and the economy of Jamaica.
“Today (last week Wednesday) is not just about opening a new branch, but it is a signal of how important Montego Bay is to Scotiabank. We’ve long recognised that MoBay, is not only an integral part of the Jamaican economy, but is a significant contributor to the economic growth for the country,” Sharp argued.
The newly opened Fairview branch offers the Scotiabank’s full suite of services, in new well-appointed state-of-the-art facility, from a team of expert advisors and service representatives all under one roof.
