Alia Atkinson wins RJR Sports Foundation – People’s Choice Award

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Swimmer Alia Atkinson was just announced as the winner of the 2014 RJR Sports Foundation, People’s Choice Awards.

The announcement was made during the Sportsman and Woman of the Year Awards ceremony currently taking place at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.

The People’s Choice awardee is selected by members of the public who vote on selected websites including at jamaicaobserver.com and in the daily editions of the Jamaica Observer. There were six participants in this year’s vote.

The voting public chose Atkinson’s record equalling swim in the 100m breaststroke in Doha, Qatar as the best performance by a Jamaican athlete in 2014.
