Councillor calls for break-away on Tanglewood road to be fixed
Councillor Sydney Stewart (Bamboo Division) wants the Tanglewood main road in St Ann closed following a break-a-way which is now posing danger to motorists.
The matter, which came up in the St Ann Parish Council last year, was again before the council at its first sitting for 2015.
According to Stewart, the condition of the section of the roadway leading from Priory to Bamboo has worsened with recent heavy rains.
Stewart told the Parish Council meeting that several letters have been sent to the National Works Agency requesting that work be done on the road. However, the problem is yet to be addressed.
“I think we should recommend that the road be closed to vehicular traffic,” he said. “It is extremely dangerous… we have a responsibility for the safety of the people of the parish.”
Stewart, who opposed Mayor Desmond Gilmore’s suggestion that the council follow due process, said he believed the mayor was “playing politics”.
However, Mayor Gilmore denied this.
The matter was sent to the Roads and Works Department after a majority vote decision.
The mayor also pointed out that a time was to be set for a tour of the area.
