Ed Sheeran shines
British pop singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran takes the teenAGE Observer’s pick for Best Male international artiste.
Sheeran took his place alongside the genre’s current global stars in 2014 when his second studio album entitled X (reads multiply) reached number one on the UK albums chart as well as the US Billboard 200 chart after a June 20 release.
It was due recognition for the 23-year-old, who showcased his impeccable song writing skills as well as smooth vocals on his sophomore album.
Popular commercial music streaming site Spotify named X as the most streamed album in the world for 2014 — totalling more than 430 million streams.
Billboard also ranked it at number five in the Top 10 best albums of 2014.
The hottest tracks on the album include Don’t, Sing and Thinking Out Loud.
Don’t was released only days before the album and was an instant hit in the United States, becoming Sheeran’s first top 10 single in the US and peaked at number eight in the United Kingdom.
Sing was done with Amercan hitmaker Pharrell Williams and became Sheeran’s first number one single on the UK charts while peaking at 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Thinking Out Loud was released the latest of the three, starting at 26 before peaking at one in UK and currently charting at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.
