KC win battle of North Street in Grace Shield
Kingston College proved too strong for North Street rivals St George’s College in Group A of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Grace Shield cricket competition, with a 51-run win at Emmet Park on Wednesday.
The low-scoring encounter, which was dominated by bowlers, saw Kingston College securing six vital points to join St George’s and Excelsior High on eight points, two behind leaders Campion College.
Scores: Kingston College 103 all out; St George’s 52 all out.
Kingston College, batting first, found captain of St George’s College Simon Lee too hot to handle as they failed to negotiate his off-spin and were knocked over for a disappointing total. The right-arm off-spinner picked up eight wickets for 31 runs to set up what should have been an easy run chase for his team.
Lee took apart the middle and lower order, bagging the scalps of Shavar Christie (14), top-scorer Romario Hanchard (21), Oshane Wright (eight), Bradley Jacks (four), Stephan Stewart (zero), Akeem Edwards (12), Kristoff Virgo (two) and Hakeem Rowe (zero).
Andrew Thompson and Kirk McKenzie shared the other wickets.
However, what Kingston College lacked with the bat, they made up for quite nicely with the ball. Led by left-arm spinner, Kristoff Virgo, who took five for 12, Kingston College showed no mercy in mauling their neighbours’ batting line-up.
Meanwhile, Kimar Morris’ six for 20 was not enough to save St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) from a one-wicket defeat at the Hands of Tarrant High in the other Group A fixture.
Scores: STATHS 75 all out; Tarrant High 76-9.
In Group C, last year’s beaten finalists Jamaica College went down by 75 runs to Calabar High at Old Hope Road.
Scores: Calabar 153 all out; Jamaica College 78 all out.
St Catherine High continued their dominant form with a 161-run win over Holy Trinity High in the other Group C encounter.
Scores: St Catherine 203-3 dec; Holy Trinity 42 all out.
