Sandals Whitehouse seek mid-season finals berth in Western Confed

Sandals Whitehouse seek mid-season finals berth in Western Confed

FROME, Westmoreland – A draw against former champions Savannah SC in today’s rescheduled Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League first-round game at Frome, would ensure a place in the mid-season finals for leaders Sandals Whitehouse.

Sandals Whitehouse leads with 24 points from nine games, after Sunday’s 9-0 demolition of Tomorrow’s People at Irwin High playfield, and a point today would be sufficient for them to qualify for the incentive final, set for Sunday, February 15.

Three other clubs, second-placed Wadadah FC, Savannah SC and fourth-placed Granville FC, are also in the running for a place in the final and that will be decided on Tuesday of next week.

Wadadah are on 21 points, one more than Savannah SC, with Granville FC a point behind. Savannah SC and Granville FC both have a game in hand.

Today’s game was originally scheduled for January 4, a month ago, but was not played as only two of three officials turned up.

At the time, both teams had perfect win records, but since then, Sandals Whitehouse have lost one to Wadadah FC, while Savannah SC have dropped seven points, from a loss and two draws to be in third place.

Both games between the two teams last season ended in draws – 0-0 and 2-2 – and so they will be searching for their first win at the expense of the other.

Meanwhile, Sandals Whitehouse will be on a high after their record score line against Tomorrow’s People on Sunday and will carry this optimism into today’s game.

Three players scored two goals on Sunday and coach Aaron Lawrence will hope they continue scoring today, especially against a Savannah SC defence that has given up 12 goals.

Dervin Campbell and Ronniel Whyte have both scored five goals so far for Sandals Whitehouse, who lead in total goals with 26, while Damion Wynter has three.

Savannah SC have 23 to their credit, but were held 1-1 by Montego Bay Boys’ Club at Frome on Sunday.

Michael Kerr who scored on Sunday and Ron Daley have combined for 12 goals and will be the main threats for Savannah SC today.
