Import performance meets circuit
KINGSTON-BASED car club Skunk Nation will take its brand of automotive entertainment to the western end of the island for the two-day Speedwest Weekend, February 28 through March 1, at JamWest Speedway, Westmoreland.
“The idea of hosting a race weekend was always in our agenda and we decided to partner with JamWest, its sponsors, and the Jamaica Race Drivers Club to make it happen,” Nick Lue of Skunk Nation told Auto.
Lue felt the event was right, as it would provide maximum cross-exposure for both those who like looking at cars and those interested in motorsports, since the Speedwest Weekend will be the opening stage for the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC). In addition, there will be drag racing.
Day one is scheduled to see qualifying for both the CMRC and drag racing in order to set up all the action for the second day of full competition. In between, Skunk Nation throws in some off-track entertainment with an Import Tuner Party & Car Show, in Negril the Saturday night. Alongside the cars, there will be music from DJ Nova and DJ Chungy to name a few, and Gully Bop putting in a live performance.
“It’s going to be a weekend of raving and racing. However, we’re going to caution everyone not to drink and drive,” Lue added.
