Businessman charged with teen’s murder
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — A Westmoreland businessman has been charged with the recent murder of 14-year-old schoolgirl Santoya Campbell, who was reportedly more than four months pregnant.
The police have identified the accused as 37-year-old Cornelius Mark Robinson, a photo studio operator of Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
He is scheduled to appear in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Robinson was charged by the Westmoreland detectives late Friday evening.
Two weeks ago the nation was stunned by news of the discovery of Santoya’s body in garbage bags under a bridge in close proximity to Frome Technical High School, where she was a grade eight student.
The accused was reportedly picked up by investigators the day following the gruesome discovery.
According to the police, post mortem results showed that the student died as a result of strangulation.
Two Mondays ago, Santoya, who was of a Shrewsbury, Westmoreland address, did not reach school after leaving her home early in the morning.
The girl’s mother became concerned when she did not return home after the usual time Monday evening, and became even more worried when calls to her cellular phone went unanswered. She subsequently filed a missing person’s report with the Westmoreland police.
The corpse was found the following day after the student went missing.
