Royale PC replaces tablet
Dear Claudienne,
On January 22, 2014, I bought a Super Pad IVIEW seven inch Android Tablet at Royale PC & Electronics Ltd, Shop 2 Tropical Plaza, 12 Constant Spring Road. The price of the tablet was $22,000.
I was told that it carried a six-month warranty for manufacturing defects only. In September 2014 I noticed that the tablet was not holding the charge when plugged in. I took it to the store where I had bought it and when a clerk plugged it into the outlet she said the tablet was charging. I then pointed out to her that despite the indicator showing that it was charging, it was not holding the charge.
It was assumed that the charger was the problem and I was sent to a technician at the B Wireless store in the Sovereign Centre. The technician confirmed that the charger was faulty and advised me to purchase a five volt two AMP charger which neither store carried. While I was making several futile efforts to locate a charger with the specs given and which was compatible with the tablet, the instrument went dead.
I took it back to Royale PC and they sent me back to the B Wireless technician. On September 20, 2014 when I went to collect the phone at B Wireless I was told that the IC had been repaired, and when I looked at the phone I could see that it had been charged, though not fully. I paid $3500 for the service, but when I took the phone home it went dead again.
On October 3, 2014, I returned the tablet to the B Wireless store. At the time of writing this letter, the tablet is still at B Wireless because I made two calls to the technician and was not happy with the information I was given. In the first call I was told that the battery was faulty and they would have to source a
replacement. When I called the second time I was told the battery would cost me $5000 and that said battery does not carry a warranty.
I have two concerns:
1. Is it normal for a battery in that type of implement to go bad in such a short space of time?
2. Why was the correct diagnosis not made in
the first instance?
I am asking Royale PC to replace the tablet with one that works normally. Could you please assist me with this matter?
PW
Dear PW,
The CEO of Royale PC& Electronics said that you were given a three-month warranty on the tablet.
The CEO told Tell Claudienne that the technician who repaired it, having noticed that the tablet had been dropped, pointed it out to you. You then admitted that it had fallen out of your hand onto the tiled floor at your home.
The CEO said that when he examined the tablet he noticed that it had a slight dent. He said that when the tablet fell to the floor, the battery and the mechanism inside it were apparently damaged.
Because the six-month warranty for manufacturing defects has long expired, the CEO said that he could not return the tablet to the manufacturer. Furthermore, when you dropped the tablet you apparently damaged it. Nevertheless, the CEO said that in the interest of good customer relations he would replace your damaged tablet with a new one.
We note that you met with the Royale PC& Electronics CEO on Wednesday February 4, and that he gave you a new tablet.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne,
I worked with the postal service and I am now retired. In July 2013 I applied for the NIS pension but I have not received it as yet.
Could you kindly check with the NIS for me as to what is causing the delay.
DR
Dear DR,
The NIS told Tell Claudienne that the delay in getting your benefit was the result of a backlog. The backlog has now been cleared and we note that you have received your pension benefit.
Good luck.
