From the horse’s mouth
CHANGE OF EQUIPMENT
The Fitzroy Glispie-trained Mom’s Student continued the trend of trainers making a change of equipment that has led to success. After the chestnut filly’s encouraging run on last, finishing a close second to the talented Berranca, Mom’s Student (Region Of Merit – The Principal) returned on Saturday with the tongue tie and Lasix for the time and that was enough to secure victory. She crushed her nine rivals and was a lonely 16 length winner going over 1,100 metres with jockey Dane Nelson motionless in the saddle. The winning time was a fast 1:05:3 minutes. A noted performance by this relatively small filly in a very respectable time. One to watch.

RARE WINS FOR KERRY-GAYLE ROBINSON AND RYAN NELSON
Jockey Kerry-Gayle Robinson and apprentice Ryan Nelson both scored well overdue victories at Caymanas Park on Saturday. Robinson, who hasn’t ridden a winner for some time now won aboard the Ryan Darby-trained Nina Primera in the sixth race. Nelson, who finished last season without a winners, got home in the last race with Prince Kayton, trained by Norman Smith. Now that the losing bug is off, let’s hope there will be many more winners for the two riders.
