Three-timer for the champion jockey
Three-time defending champion jockey Dane Nelson was at his best when landing a spanking triple on Saturday.
The man racing fans dubbed ‘Warrior Chief’ for his bustling riding skills while in the saddle, started in the fourth race when he piloted the Anthony Nunes-trained Monalisasmile to a workmanlike win going over 1,100 metres and then followed in the seventh race with a really good front-running ride on Mom’s Student also over 1,100 metres. The cap came in the 10th race when Nelson guided the Richard Azan-conditioned Franfield to victory in an Overnight Allowance race over 1,600 metres.
Nelson’s triple moved him to eight winners for the season just one behind new leader Robert Halledeen.
