Portmore United, Tru-Juice clash in mid-season final

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — The mid-season spoils in the LIME/St Catherine football season will be decided on Friday evening at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, starting at 4:00 pm with the Division One decider between Federal FC and Dunbeholden.

Two hours later, Portmore United and Tru-Juice are set to do battle for the half-term bounty in the Major League.

Following their relegation from the top flight last season, Portmore have been flying below the radar this season, but will look to steal some of the spotlight tonight. And should they need it, it is the former five-time National Premier League champions who will enter the contest with the psychological advantage, having beaten Tru-Juice 1-0 in their only meeting to date.

In fact, Portmore are the only unbeaten team left in the 14-team competition (winning five and drawing one) and should also be boosted by their goal average, which, at 14 for and two against, is second to none.

Despite losing to Portmore earlier in the season, Tru-Juice should also head into this match-up feeling assured. Having played a game more than their opponents, the Linstead-based team currently occupies top position in the standings on 18 points, two above Portmore who have a game in hand against seventh-placed Old Harbour Bay United. And they have also scored the same number of goals as Portmore, though conceding twice as much.

Meanwhile, in the curtain-raiser, Federal and Dunbeholden will renew rivalry in a game that could that could well be decided with penalty kicks.

After six games, only goal difference separates them at the top of the table, with both sides having registered four wins and two draws — one of which came against each other in a 2-2 stalemate at the start of the campaign.
