Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica Campaign hits St Ann
The Sandals Foundation, in a major display of solidarity with the recently launched ‘Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica’ campaign, staged a major clean-up at the Fisherman’s Beach in St Ann’s Bay, removing over 100 bags of garbage from the prime waterfront area.
The clean-up team comprised team members from Sandals Grande Riviera, Beaches Ocho Rios and Sandals Royal Plantation, as well as members of the local community, who put hands and hearts together to remove the refuse which had made the area a major eyesore.
Adults were teamed with children, as over 70 volunteers recently spent an afternoon gathering all the debris which had flowed through the drainage system before being deposited on the beach.
“The Sandals Foundation is committed to playing its part in supporting the Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica campaign,” explained Sandals Regional Public Relations Manager Lyndsay Isaacs, who also participated in the event.
Isaacs also charged members of the community to ensure that the beach was maintained in an excellent condition and that residents practised proper garbage disposal.
The Sandals Foundation team also donated clothing and books to residents of Fisherman’s Beach, in a continued effort to improve the lives of the children in the area.
St Ann’s Bay Mayor Desmond Gilmore, who was on hand to observe the clean-up exercise, praised the Sandals Foundation for its sterling efforts.
“What I have seen here today is pretty amazing,” the mayor said. “The foundation has made a step forward and demonstrated to the country and the local community what good corporate citizenship is all about. It is up to Jamaicans to stop littering our island.”
Joy Clarke, a member of the local community who also participated in the event, was grateful for the assistance given by the Sandals Foundation.
“The Sandals team is not just here once in a while, but is a big part of the community. We thank them for their efforts and hope that more companies duplicate what they are doing,” Clarke said.
