New odourless paint helps lift Berger sales
BERGER Paints Jamaica has introduced its newest brand of paint — Berger Royale Satin. The product, which is described as premier product as a result of its close-to-odourless properties, has been developed to push the company forward in a stagnant and competitive paint industry.
General Manager Mustafa Turra stated in the company’s third-quarter financial ending December 2014, that Berger Paints continues to seek ways to provide solutions for its customers by offering increased value for money.
“The most important feature about this paint is that it has virtually no odour,” sales manager Newton Abrahams told the Jamaica Observer in an interview on Monday. “A lot of persons suffer from sinusitis and other issues and so when a painting job is being done, one would normally stay outdoors for some time.
“With the Royale Satin you could easily be painting an office and the staff remains at work. If you have just completed a painting job at home, no need to worry about sleeping in the next room or with the doors open because you will not be getting any smell”.
Berger Royale Satin, he told the Business Observer, was launched last November, just in time for the Christmas period and has been doing extremely well on the market.
Paint sales for the nine months ending December 2014 were $1.5 billion, a growth of six per cent over a comparable period last year, according to Berger’s financials. Year-to-date profit after tax of $71.5 billion from the company’s financial represented a 12 per cent increase on the $63.8 billion it made year-over-year.
Berger also realised savings in operating expenses through ongoing process improvements, cost containment and the reduced corporate tax rate.
“Royale Satin is a premier luxury interior emulsion. We have products like weather proof ultra, which is geared towards outside paint jobs, but for interior jobs this paint has superior flow, meaning that it flows very well and gives a very smooth finish on your wall,” Abrahams said.
Berger Royale incorporates dura-tuf technology making it stain-resistant, easy to clean and highly resistant to algae and fungus.
“Stain-resistance means that it doesn’t stain easily, so if a stain goes on the wall, the amount of it that will hold on to the surface is much less than of a regular paint. And of what holds on to it, it is much easier to remove with sponge and water. It also has superior water-beading properties so if water flashes upon it, the water will bead down,” the sales manager said.
Currently, Royale Satin can be found in all the Caribbean islands and has garnered the interest of many hoteliers and corporate institutions. Royale Satin is only available in white and based at Berger’s Spanish Town Road outlet, but is offered in various colours at paint dealers across the island.
While most distributors will sell at different prices, Abrahams stated that the product could be priced roughly “20 per cent higher than the Berger Everglow paints”.
