Gore’s Audi totalled
CIRCUIT racing fans will not be able to see Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore in action for the 2015 racing season as his Audi TT-R DTM suffered significant damage while testing for the SpeedWest Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) event at JamWest in Westmoreland, last Sunday. He was not at the wheel.
“David Bell, my crew chief, lost control, thought he had regained it, but ended up slamming into the wall front first,” Gore told Auto.
Bell had been testing the major improvement being made to the car for 2015, and was able to walk away with minor bruises. The crew chief was in the process of working in the new brakes during a 20-lap session when the incident occurred.
“We needed 30 or so laps to run in the new brakes and I asked him to do the first 20. It was violent when he hit the wall,” Gore told Auto.
The impact ripped off the front of the Audi, but more significantly the rear subframe suffered major damage, which will require the car to make another trek to Europe for repairs.
“It needs a lot of parts,” Gore said.
Gore was scheduled to start the circuit-racing season at JamWest, but with the Audi out of commission, he will focus on his return to rallysport.
“I have an Evolution X which I’ll be using. Rally time for now,” he explained.
Gore isn’t the only one with car issues, as veteran Peter Rae has been struggling to repair his Mazda RX-7 after its massive accident in Guyana last year.
“The car is still wounded, and the event didn’t pan out as I expected, so I’m looking into alternative methods of raising the funds to fix it,” Rae said.
