Digicel tops up by adding Gibson McCook Relays to line-up
DIGICEL Jamaica has added the Gibson McCook Relays to its already impressive line-up of track and field meets.
Slated for February 28, the Gibson Relays is one of the most highly anticipated meets on the local track and field calendar.
Commenting on the partnership, senior sponsorship and development manager at Digicel Kamal Powell said: “We’ve said it many times that Digicel remains committed to the development of our young athletes. So our partnership with the track and field meets, including the Gibson Relays, is our effort to maintain the sustainability of track and field by increasing the viability of these meets.”
Digicel will be official sponsors of the Teddy McCook trophy, which will be awarded to the top performing school along with a $150,000 cash prize. The top male and female school will each receive $75,000 and the winners of the Class Three boys 4x100m can also expect a prize from Digicel.
Chairman of the organising committee, Professor Rainford Wilks said he was happy that the cellphone giant has embraced the annual relays.
“We are happy to welcome Digicel on board the Gibson (McCook) Relays. We applaud the company’s bold move to partner with several of these meets and their extended partnership with the Gibson (McCook) Relays is evidence that they are not in it for the sponsorship, but to help us to play a part in the bigger picture, which is the development of our athletes.”
