Wadadah seek revenge against Salt Marsh in Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC will be seeking revenge for one of their heaviest losses in years in the Jamaica Football Federation/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League when they take on Salt Marsh United at the UDC Field this afternoon.
Match time is 3:00 pm.
Salt Marsh United, who are in their first season in the Super League, ambushed Wadadah FC 5-1 in the first-round game in late December when the St James club were missing a number of players, including their goalkeeper.
In games today, mid-season champions and leaders Sandals Whitehouse will host last-placed Violet Kickers, second-placed Savannah SC are home to Beaches Negril at Frome, third-placed Granville FC will host Montego Bay Boys’ Club at Granville, while Tomorrow’s People and Village United will meet at Irwin High.
In the lone game played Sunday, Jericho Rangers beat Holland United 2-1 for the second time this season when they met at Elletson Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Uton Cockett scored both goals (18th and 30th minutes) for Jericho Rangers, while St Derrick Pryce pulled one back for the home team in the 61st minute.
Today, Wadadah FC will seek to start their second round on a winning note after last week’s game against Boys’ Club was postponed.
Salt Marsh United have lost their last two games and will be
hard-pressed to win today’s
match against a Wadadah FC that can take teams apart.
Leaders Sandals Whitehouse should have no problems against a Violet Kickers team that has struggled and has just one win and four points to show for their efforts all season.
Savannah SC, under pressure from Granville FC, won’t have things easy against an improving Beaches Negril who are edging out of the relegation zone with each succeeding round of matches.
Last week Savannah SC hammered Jericho Rangers and will hope their strikers, led by Ron Daley and the in-form Michael Kerr (tied on nine goals each), will lead them to another win.
Savannah SC (27 points) will need to win to stay in second place with Granville FC, a point behind, hosting Boys’ Club today.
Granville have been steady, if not unspectacular, all season, scoring just 14 goals, including an award of three goals from their game against Village United. On the other hand, they have conceded just four, by far the least of any of the 12 teams taking part.
Granville FC had won the first round game 1-0 at the UDC Field.
