Red Dragon cops four gold medals
Fighters from the Montego Bay-based Red Dragon Taekwon-Do Centre won eight medals, including four gold in their first outing this year — the Jamaica Superstars Martial Arts Open ‘Best of the Best’.
The competition was hosted by Olympian and World Champion Kenneth ‘Kenman’ Edwards at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, University of Technology on Saturday.
Seretha Johnson won two gold medals, while Jamela Shukura and Taneisha Jarrett also won a gold medal, Deshaun McKenzie won a silver medal, while Everold Chung won silver and instructor Shiahh Shukura won a bronze in the heavyweight division for sparring.
Johnson won her medals in the white belt section for patterns and sparring; Shukura in the junior 9-10 year-old category won the gold medal for sparring, while Jarrett won gold in the yellow belt division for sparring.
Jarrett also won a silver medal in patterns, Chung won his silver in the coloured belt section also for patterns, while McKenzie won silver for sparring in the black belt lightweight division.
At least 12 martial arts schools from across the island participated in the event.
