LIME stops at St Jago High on the Journey to Champs
TELECOMMUNICATIONS sponsor of the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships, LIME, journeyed to the old capital of Spanish Town on Monday to St Jago High School, as part of the Journey to Champs school tour, to deliver a special donation of $100,000 to the girls’ track and field team.
The donation is a reward to the team for its performance last year, and encouragement for this year’s performance.
The telecoms sponsor has recognised the burden on schools to prepare teams for Champs each year, and as such made the effort to offer financial assistance to six selected schools ahead of this year’s edition.
According to Kim Lee, head of channel marketing, sponsorship and promotions at LIME, sport development is very important to the company.
“The donation, we hop,e will go towards the development of the sport, as well as build school spirit and discipline within the schools, leading up to the upcoming games. This is our way of encouraging this,” said Lee.
LIME, before handing over the cheque to the receiving school, first hosted a Pre-Champs pep rally in an effort to boost school spirit leading up to next month’s meet. Monday’s event had entertaining performances from high-energy LIME dancers, popular dancehall artiste Chi Ching Ching, as well as other engaging performances from high-spirited students who participated in the various activities. There were numerous giveaways, including mobile phones from Huawei, an associated partner on the journey.
St Jago High School, who were placed third in the 2014 Girls’ Championships, have every intention of taking home the title this year. Excited about the progress of the track and field team, principal Sandra Swyer-Watson said they expect to do extremely well this year.
“My predictions are first or maybe second for the girls. The boys currently have various injury concerns that we are working on,” said Swyer-Watson.
Guided by the motto Labor Omnia Vincit, Latin for Labour/Hard Work Conquers All, St Jago have been putting in long hours and hard work, and with this boost from LIME are surely on their way to contest for the 2015 Girls’ Championships honours.
