‘How we treat our children tells a lot about us’

Talk Back

JAMAICA Observer online readers have expressed disgust at the brutal slaying of 14-year-old Kayalicia Simpson just outside her home in Newlands, St Thomas early Tuesday morning. Kayalicia’s body was found with several chop wounds to the back of the head about 30 minutes after she went outside her house while getting ready for school. She attended Donald Quarrie High. Reacting to the act of savagery, Observer readers called for the resumption of hanging. Here are some edited comments:

welltraveledpensioner

What more can one say about the savagery that is rife in some communities now. Disgusting animals! Capture them, try them, and hang them.Time for draconian measures to bring the country back from the brink, if it has not already fallen off the edge.

Jammin

How we treat our children tells a lot about us as a nation or people.

Iwillhelpthem

What could a 14-year-old possibly do to you for you to pay her like this? Literal tears. #Godisnotdead

Risin2dtop

Wow! What would possess any human being/s in taking this young child’s life? World a run red.

Janaa Pickford

Bring back hanging, Jamaica. Killers of children need to be hanged. Don’t spare this one, when he’s caught. Jamaica, you need US help to eradicate crime in the island.

jayjayja

I have not felt this heartbroken in a long time. The killer should receive no mercy and the people should move swiftly to ensure this happens

JayTee

I know we are going to hear the usual rubbish about this poor little girl’s motive or behaviour, but let us be very clear: this little girl was somebody’s baby and no one had any right to treat her this way. Just imagine her agony of that last 30 minutes. What callous, evil and cold-hearted animals we are producing in Jamaica. Even lions sometimes save and protect the young innocent ones of their prey!

Alessandro Ferrari

As a father who has lost a nine-year-old son to murderers, I can say that I am sick of what is going on in this country right now. I love Jamaica but this has to stop! Those politicians who are sitting in luxury need to set things in motion and get laws out there to protect our citizens. Those low-life scums who are preying on the nation’s children and cutting their lives short need to be shown no mercy.

marciah

I am trying to compose a response to this heinous act and there are no words to express my shock and disgust at what has happened to Kayalicia. My condolence to her family and schoolmates. RIP.

mccormacklindel

I cannot come up with an adjective to describe the demons who did this to this child. The frequency of such killings begs to suggest there is a kind of demonic force that has taken over the society, and at the rate these are occurring Jamaica has no future.

Andyb

14 seems to be the favourite number for these sub-human killers. What are these guys drinking?

CArlton Reynolds

What has the government been doing about the findings that about half the population are suffering from some form of mental imbalance? We are killing off each other at the drop of a hat. Even our responses to different killings indicate this mental imbalance.

GUEST 2.5

Jamaica, if the death of Kayalicia does not

prompt EVERY JAMAICAN TO CALL THEIR MPs this morning and demand change, THEN SADLY WE ARE FINISHED AS A NATION! We cannot continue like this. CLEAN THE GALLOWS; THESE ANIMALS HAVE PROVED THEY NO LONGER NEED TO LIVE AMONG US!

The Optimist

Bring back the death penalty. Time for something radical from the Justice Ministry. It’s as simple as that: Execute murderers, once their legal process has run its course. Don’t place them in jail and feed them with hard-earned taxes. Execute them, and watch the murder rate plummet!

Sugablaxx

This is crazy, and premeditated. Officers, check her phone, something prompted her to go outside.

niceladyjam

When is this going to stop? Maybe Jamaica should consider bringing back capital punishment. Condolence to this child’s relatives.

Lets Boycott

The best solution to combat these awful criminals is to bring back the hanging system. Our Government is so DUMB!

SD

Utterly Disgusting!

Suechel

I am tired of it! I couldn’t even sleep! What is going on here? Our children are being killed in gruesome ways and we have a female at the helm and nothing is happening to fight this thing.

roseann782

Not another child. OMG! No respect for life.

the watcher

Some local pervert had eyes on this kid and was waiting for an opportune time to pounce. Police need to get into the area and get the DNA of all males 12 to 100 years old; anyone who recently left must be tracked down.

bobo

Speak with her friends first. They should know if she had any male ‘friends’ or ‘enemies’ close to where she lived. If she had a phone, check the records, as if she was meeting up with someone, they may have contacted each other via that media.

DNA if possible.

Any male ‘friends’ she had in that area or close by should be detained and questioned right away. Why male? It would be a bit difficult for a female to hack off her neck. They would more likely have stabbed her repeatedly. This does seem like a crime of passion… Somewhere, someone other than the killer, will have vital information to assist the police.. This is a heinous crime, please assist. It is the right thing to do.
