Manchester Div One gets financial boost from Jamalco
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Preliminary round action continues today in the Jamalco/Manchester FA Division One competition with a full slate of matches in Zone Two, all scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
In central Manchester, Star Academy host Mandeville United at the Porus Community Centre, Clandon Strikers meet Old England at Long Pond, while 360°Academy play away to DC Strikers at deCarteret College.
The competition was launched last Sunday at the Kirkvine Sports Club, where the Manchester Football Association (MFA) unveiled Jamalco as its new title sponsor. The Clarendon-based alumina company has pledged $1 million over a one- year period.
MFA President Dalton Wint said: “We have been in dialogue with them for the past two years and this year they decided the time was right to give us some support. So we are happy to have them on board, and hopefully it is a partnership that will last for a long time.”
So far, Technical Strikers, NCU President XI, Old England, Star Zone and Mandeville United are the teams that have scored first-round victories.
In Zone One, Technical Strikers defeated Plowden 2-1; Star Zone blanked Hope Village 2-0, while in Zone Two, NCU stopped 360°Academy 2-0, Old England were also 2-0 winners over Starz Academy and Mandeville United beat DC Strikers 2-1.
