“ALONE we can do so little, together we can do so much,” was a quote Ruel Reid, principal of Jamaica College used to show his appreciation to LIME, telecommunications sponsor of the 2015 GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics Championship, upon being presented with a cheque of $100,000 for the school’s performance in 2014 edition.
The presentation was made on Tuesday, February 10, as part of the LIME Journey to Champs 2015 School Tour.
According to Kim Lee, head of channel marketing, sponsorship and promotions at LIME, sports development is very important to the telecoms provider, as it teaches dedication, teamwork and focus.
“We want to support the school in doing so. We hope that this donation will assist in many ways as it can, as we continue to lend a helping hand while expanding our customer base,” said Lee.
The telecoms sponsor also hosted a Pre-Champs pep rally to get the 2014 third-placed finisher in ISSA Boys’ & Girls’ Championships revved up for what is predicted to be an exciting championship. There was dance-off competition, deejay competition, amongst several fun challenges as well as many giveaways of LIME goodie bags, #LIMEChamps T-shirt in the school’s colour, along with flags.
Huawei, which has partnered with the telecoms provider on the initiative, also gave away numerous LIME phones to students for participating in various challenges and competitions.
Consistently being placed in the top five among all participants each year at the Grace Kennedy/ISSA Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics Championships, Jamaica College has dominated in numerous sporting arenas and also various fields in academia.
“We are on a roll, we’ve dominated the Manning Cup, the Olivier Shield and the LIME Super Cup, the momentum is behind JC, we have a well prepared team, quality coaches, there is the desire to win, and it will be a ding-dong battle to the end,” said Reid.
He further added that they are grateful to the telecoms sponsor for their donation, as they were also the beneficiary of the inaugural LIME Super Cup.
“One hundred thousand dollars is a big contribution in our preparation. It is very kind, and we are very confident we will honour this contribution by producing at the GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys’ & Girls’ Championships 2015.
