Teams seek second-round berths in St James KO
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Three more teams, including Division One side Faulklands SC, will seek places in the second round of the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout competition which continues with three games at Jarrett Park today.
Faulklands SC will take on Senior League outfit Montego Bay United Under-21 in the second game after Club Stars FC and Heights FC meet in the opening game set to start at 3:00 pm.
Senior League teams Norwood Strikers and Seba FC will meet in the third game set to start at 7:00 pm.
Six teams have already secured second-round spots after defending champions Granville FC, Premier League team Montego Bay United and Reggae Youths all scored wins on Tuesday.
On Monday, Seaview FC beat Salt Spring Roses 1-0, Mountain Villa beat Paradise FC 4-2 in extra time, and Marl Road got by Granville City 4-1.
On Tuesday, defending champions Granville FC got by fellow Western Confederation Super League team Wadadah FC 2-1 in the second game of a double header at Jarrett Park.
All three goals were scored by Granville FC players, as Davion Thelwell scored the first goal in the 20th minute, but an own goal from Andrew Allen in the 59th minute tied up the scores.
Jermaine Jackson then scored the winner in the 76th minute.
In the feature game, Montego Bay United, who are seeking to make it to a third-straight final, were made to work hard before scoring four times in the final 37 minutes to beat Senior League club Salt Spring United 4-0.
Omar Gordon’s 73rd-minute penalty conversion broke the deadlock and Allen Ottey added a second in the 79th minute.
Leon Irvin made it 3-0 in the 85th minute before Cornelius Henry, who transferred to the club in January, scored the fourth in the 88th minute.
In the opening game, Reggae Youths dumped Lilliput Rovers out of the competition with a 2-1 win.
Santino Grinnion scored for Reggae Youths in the 14th minute and Delon Randol doubled the advantage in the 29th minute for a 2-0 half-time lead.
Robert Lewis gave Lilliput Rovers some hope with a 76th minute goal, but Reggae Youths held on for the win and a berth in the second round.
