Trio hunts second-round berth in Clarendon KO
MAY PEN, Clarendon — The Noel Arscott/Clarendon Football Association Knockout competition resumes today with the second leg of three first-round ties.
Promoted Major League side Black Stars travel to Chapelton with a 3-1 lead to face Morgan’s Pass at Clarendon College; New Bowens, with a 2-0 cushion, host south-eastern rivals Monymusk in Bowens, while New Longsville and York Town, goalless from the first leg, have it all to play for in their tie at Turner’s Oval.
Match time is 3:00 pm at all venues.
Meanwhile, the Clarendon FA on Sunday announced Noel Arscott, the Member of Parliament for Clarendon South Western, as the competition’s title sponsor.
“Congratulations to MP Arscott,” said Clarendon FA president Michael Ricketts at a gathering in Gravel Hill. “He has now partnered with the Clarendon FA to unearth talent, and we can assure him that his investment will be worthwhile, because there is nothing that unites people like sports.”
For his part, Arscott, who is also the minister of local government and community development, said: “We recognised how important football is to Clarendon, because in addition to a number of top schoolboy teams, we also have Humble Lion and Sporting Central in the Premier League. So this is just my contribution to the development of football in the parish.”
Twenty teams will vie for this year’s KO title over five rounds of matches, with defending champions Humble Lion and Sporting Central Academy, plus Major League outfits Jamalco and Treadlight, receiving buys to the third round.
The other 16 teams began their quest in the first round.
