UPDATE: Man commits suicide after chopping girlfriend
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – A man who allegedly committed suicide by drinking a substance after repeatedly chopping his girlfriend with a machete and then taking her to hospital has been identified by police.
He is 46-year-old farmer Ayon Hall of Resource in South Manchester.
Police say Hall was at the woman’s house at Duff House in South Manchester about 3:15 am Wednesday, when the machete attack took place.
According to reports reaching the police, the 49-year-old woman (name withheld) was awakened from her sleep by a blow to the head. She subsequently received several chop wounds over her body.
Police say the woman reportedly managed to calm her assailant and persuaded him to take her to hospital. While his girlfriend was being treated at the Mandeville Regional Hospital, Hall allegedly went to a bathroom and drank toxic substance from a bottle.
He died about 6:30 am, police say.
The injured woman is said to be in stable condition in hospital.
