The stage funds studies
Local students are set to benefit from a $200,000- annual scholarship for the pursuit of higher education tenable at any approved university of choice in the island for the upcoming school year. This is part of a charity initiative, Peggy’s Hope for Education, which is being spearheaded by Elaine Spencer, a Jamaican-Canadian university professor, playwright and author living in Toronto, Canada.
The scholarship will be funded in part through proceeds from an international stage play Melody of Deception, being run in Jamaica March 6-8, 2015 at the Cecil Charlton Hall, Mandeville, Port Antonio High School, and Courtleigh Auditorium, respectively.
The annual scholarship opportunity will be open to Jamaican nationals at the secondary level of the education system who maintain at least an 80 per cent average in their academic performance for two consecutive years prior to matriculating to university. Applicants must also show commitment to and involvement in their local church and community. Additional details can be accessed through the Facebook page of the Melody of Deception stage play.
