Badminton team to compete in Special Olympics 2015
JAMAICA will be sending a badminton team to the Special Olympics 2015 to be hosted in Los Angeles in July.
Technical director for the Jamaica Badminton Association Howard Ranger has been training the team in Mandeville for the past several months. As a Level Two certified badminton coach, Ranger is knowledgeable of what it takes to whip the team into shape and improve their skills to compete at this level.
“It is a small team: however, the players are doing well. They are training hard with members of the national junior team and other members of Ranger’s Badminton Academy. They are getting stronger and will be ready for competition in July,” he said.
Ranger is no stranger to the job as he has taken a local team to the Special Olympics held in Ireland in 2003.
Executive Director of Special Olympics Jamaica Lorna Bell is fully supportive of the initiative and encourages the team to give it their best.
“The team is dedicated to the sport. They are working hard and I am sure they will do well at the Special Olympics Games,” she said.
