Nickle wins girls’ Under-18 ATL Junior Classic title
MONTEGO BAY, St James – MONTEGONIAN Shaeda Nickle justified her number-one ranking, winning the girls’ Under-18 division at the ATL Automotive Junior Classic held at the Royal Decameron tennis courts in Montego Bay last weekend.
In Sunday’s final, Nickle beat Kingston’s Alexandra Marzouca in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, while Nicholas Malcolm Jr of Ocho Rios won the boy’s equivalent, beating Montegonian Alex Rose 6-1, 6-2.
Sixty-seven players from across the island participated in the Tennis Jamaica-sanctioned event, and points earned will be applied to players’ national ranking.
Six of the winner’s trophies remained in Montego Bay, one went to Kingston and another to Ocho Rios.
In other results, Miguel Rose won the boys’ Under-16 category, beating Jonathan Golding in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 10-5, while the girls’ Under-16 title went to Shae-Ann Kameka who beat Emma Dibbs 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.
Tariq Simons was crowned boys’ Under-14 champion after beating Dimitri Trail 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets, while Hailey McNair beat Kobi-Colleen Wilcott 6-2, 6-3 in the girls’ Under-14 final.
In the boys’ 12-and-under category, Delano Reeves beat Jordan Vaz 4-6, 6-3, 10-4, while in the girls’ 12-and-under Abigail Peru beat Selena Bird 6-4, 6-0.
