Sandals Whitehouse seek revenge against Savannah
WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Mid-season champions and leaders Sandals Whitehouse will be seeking to avenge their first-round loss to Savannah SC when the two teams clash at Whitehouse today in a crucial Jamaica Football Federation/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League match.
One point separates the teams after Sandals Whitehouse were surprised 3-0 by Montego Bay Boys Club last week Saturday, and Savannah SC took full points from last-placed Violet Kickers on Tuesday.
Sandals Whitehouse are on 37 points from 16 games with Savannah SC on 36 with a game in hand.
Four other games will be played today as well. Third-placed Granville FC will be away to Tomorrow’s People at Irwin High, fourth-placed Wadadah FC will take on Village United at the UDC Field, Salt Marsh United and Beaches Negril will meet at Davis Pen, and Holland United will face Montego Bay Boys Club at Elleston Wakeland Centre.
Meanwhile, in one game played yesterday at the UDC Field, Violet Kickers and Jericho Rangers played out a 2-2 draw where both teams finished with 10 players.
Jericho Rangers took the lead as early as the sixth minute but had to rely on an 89th minute goal to earn a share of the points after Ryan Binns scored twice for Violet Kickers to lead deep into the game.
Uton Crockett scored the opening goal, but Binns scored in the 30th and 55th minutes to give the St James team the lead. Damington Dohman scored in the 89th minute as the teams shared the points.
James Welds of Violet Kickers and Demar Dohman of Jericho were sent off in the first half.
At Whitehouse today, the home team will seek to avenge their loss in the first round and keep their lead as the return-round winds down with the semi-finals approaching.
Sandals had won the mid-season finals between the teams a few days after their loss in sudden death penalties, and will hope to rebound from their loss last week in Montego Bay.
Tomorrow’s People are coming off a rare win but could find Granville tough to beat despite them coming off an upset loss at home to Holland United on Wednesday.
Wadadah FC were also losers in the midweek games and face a Village United team that has shown some improvement of late to rise to sixth place.
