JDF march to second win in JCA Senior Cup
Reigning champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) got their second win in Zone A of the 2015 Jamaica Cricket Association two-day Senior Cup after prevailing over St Ann CA by five wickets at Up Park Camp yesterday.
Scores: St Ann 166 & 246; JDF 248 & 167-5.
Joseph Palmer struck 106 to help JDF to 248 in their first innings reply to St Ann CA’s score of 166.
Batting a second time, St Ann compiled 246 for a modest lead of 164 runs. With time running out on yesterday’s second and final day, JDF reached the target while losing five wickets.
Left-hander Rasheed Outar struck 64 not out, while West Indies player Sheldon Cotterell, more known for his left-arm fast bowling, supported with an unbeaten 37.
In another Zone A encounter, hosts St Mary CA beat Portland CA by two wickets at Three Hills.
Scores: St Mary 233 & 250-8; Portland 125 & 352.
Batting first, St Mary made 233 thanks to a knock of 116 from Alwin Williams. Anthony Guiness took 5-50 for Portland. In reply, the visitors could only manage 125 all out after being wrecked by Orane Farr, who took 6-50.
Portland were asked to follow-on and put in a much better show in their second innings, amassing 352. Sheldon Crawford struck 109, while Herman Henry made 102 against St Mary’s Gihon Murdock’s 5-50.
Chasing 245 runs to force an outright victory, St Mary hustled to 250-8 for the win.
Rain had a big say in the drawn Zone B clash between hosts Hanover CA and Trelawny CA at Elgin Town Community Centre. Hanover barely escaped with first innings advantage, but rain severely truncated play yesterday.
Scores: Hanover 138 & 30-4; Trelawny 123.
In Zone C, visitors St Catherine CA beat Clarendon CA by 89 runs at the Jamalco Sports Club.
Scores: St Catherine CA 182 & 174-6 declared; Clarendon 160 & 107.
Yesterday, Clarendon resumed from their score of 150-6 on day one, but collapsed and were dismissed for 160. St Catherine CA’s left-arm spinner Coi Thompson, who had six wickets overnight, ended with 7-51.
Batting a second time, St Catherine CA declared on 174-6 to set Clarendon a target of 197 runs.
Clarendon could only reach 107, as Thompson again wreaked havoc. He claimed 6-56 to end with 13 wickets in the match.
In the Zone D match at Collie Smith Complex, last season’s losing finalists Kingston CC defeated hosts Boys’ Town by 44 runs.
Scores: Kingston 156 & 177; Boys’ Town 149 & 140.
Resuming from their second innings score of 71-3, Kingston made 177 to leave Boys’ Town a target of 185 for victory. Sidelined national left-handed batsman Simon Jackson, who made naught in the first innings, top scored with 46 second time around.
Boys’ Town’s off-spinner Jameel Bryan and medium pacer Kemar Brown, who both snared five wickets in the first innings, grabbed 3-26 and 3-64, respectively.
Chasing the win, the hosts were dismissed for 140. Left-arm spinner Patrick Harty took 6-25 for Kingston.
At Elletson Road, the hosts Police romped to 10-wicket win against Kingston and St Andrew CA (KSACA) in the Zone D game.
Scores: KSACA 89 & 225; Police 299-8 declared & 17-0.
Richard Allen made 103 in Kingston and St Andrew’s second innings score of 225. Brian Latore, who made an unbeaten 110 in Police’s first innings, also showed his ability with the ball, taking 3-35 with his off-spin bowling.
In another Zone D game at Chedwin Park, the hosts St Catherine CC defeated GC Foster by nine wickets.
Scores: GC 108 & 174; St Catherine CC 243 & 42-1.
Kensington CC got their first win in Zone E of the competition after easily dispatching hosts St Thomas CA by an innings and 71 runs at the Goodyear Oval.
Scores: Kensington 343-8 declared; St Thomas 109 & 163.
