More Rootz come summer
THE Rootz Revealerz band has earmarked summer for the release of their second album.
Their debut, Sweet Jamaica, was released in 2009. Judia Manning, the quartet’s bass player, told the Jamaica Observer that they stay true to their sound on the yet-titled set.
“Our sound is primarily live roots, rock, reggae but we draw influences from all different music. We have a contemporary sound with a global feel,” he said.
Manning’s brothers, Prince (drums) and Andrew (keyboards), and American singer Chris Mundahl are the other members of Rootz Revealerz.
Their latest single, Rude Boy, a collaboration with deejay Ras Goudie, is the album’s lead song.
The Texas-born Mundahl and his brother Josh formed Rootz Revealerz in 2005. Their original keyboard player was another Manning brother, Pele, who introduced his siblings to the Mundahls.
Pele Manning died in 2008 while Josh Mundahl left the group shortly after Sweet Jamaica’s release.
During the break between albums, the band has kept busy touring as opening act for roots legends The Abyssinians of which the Mannings’ father, Donald, is a founder.
Judia Manning notes that playing live to diverse audiences in North and South America, Europe and Hawaii has helped craft the band’s sound.
“With this album we are further honing our craft and taking time to come to maturity. Music in itself is an energy and vehicle to inject thoughts and healing and share perspective and experience through art and expression,” he reasoned.
