Big horses meet in Lady Geeta
The top horses now in ‘A’ Class meet tomorrow in the six-furlong Lady Geeta Trophy.
Trainers Harry Parsard and Wayne DaCosta dominate the entries with six of the eight runners declared to start. Both Parsard and DaCosta have three entries each. The Complete Racing Guide analyses the chances of the eight runners in the race.
1. Uppa Tune DNelson Harry Parsard
Gritty and determined Uppa Tune, running without any major challenge for the lead on last, easily, disposed of rivals to score a very creditable win over seven and a half furlongs. Very consistent and although he will not be allowed to lead undeterred will run well. Has gone up 4 lbs for the last win but should relish the shorter trip. Uppa Tune will run his usual good race and is handicapped to win again, although a lot will depend on how the race is run.
2. Double The Honey GSergeon Wayne DaCosta
Getting on in years and should not be a noticeable factor in this one.
3. Crucial Appeal PFrancis Patrick Lynch
Has known speed and has been running some really good races. Put in his place by the Parsard trio of Boy Wonder, Potcheen and Uppa Tune over six and a half furlongs on February 28. Returns with the same weight and actually meets Uppa Tune on only a one-pound better weight difference based on the February 28 outing. Well suited to the trip and is going to run well, but with no real weight benefit after being beaten by just over two lengths by Uppa Tune, on paper should again be behind Uppa Tune.
4. Pete’swildone OWhite Harry Parsard
Has been around in his races, winning last time on November 8, 2014. Certainly has the talent to win but should again be held by his stablemates Uppa Tune and Potcheen. Will be coming late.
5. Phineas JErwin Andrew McDonald
Is testing uncharted waters and even after his stunning win on April 6 cannot be really afforded a winning chance here.
6. Perfect Neighbour RHalledeen Wayne DaCosta
Ran fairly well on seasonal debut when finishing fourth behind Uppa Tune, and even though he has won over six furlongs before cannot be seen as a winner here against what is probably the cream of the sprinting stock currently in training. Will, however, benefit from the change in riders from Shamaree Muir to the stronger Robert Halledeen.
7. Fortuneonehundred SMuir Wayne DaCosta
Finally coming of age. Won impressively on last when waited on by his rider instead of leading but has to learn the ropes at this level before winning can be considered.
8. Potcheen OWalker Harry Parsard
On March 28, Potcheen carried 123 lbs and finished 17 lengths behind winner and stablemate Uppa Tune over seven and a half furlongs. Now at six furlongs, Potcheen goes up in the handicaps by 3 lbs to 126 lbs, while Uppa Tune moves from 119 lbs to 123 lbs – 4 lbs. Based on handicaps therefore, for Potcheen to win this race, his last effort has to be completely erased from calculations. Potcheen is quite capable of winning, but let us see.
