Levy launches acoustic set
ACOUSTICALEVY, Barrington Levy’s first acoustic album, will be officially launched this evening at the South Beach club in St Andrew.
The 15-track set is being distributed by DDP Records, a new company owned by Gary ‘Doctor Dread’ Himelfarb of RAS Records fame.
Levy worked with producer Handel Tucker and guitarist Lamont Savory on the project, which hears unplugged versions of some of his biggest hits, including Murdera, Under mi Sensi, Prison Oval Rock and She’s Mine.
The singer welcomed the opportunity to put a fresh spin on his songs, some of which were first recorded over 30 years ago.
“I am music an’ I still want to venture into different areas,” said Levy. “I always love the acoustic form so this is a good look for me.”
Barrington Levy is one of the survivors of the 1980s dancehall explosion. He recorded many of hits then for producer Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes with the Roots Radics Band at Channel One studio.
His songs from that period earned him a lasting base in the United Kingdom and Europe where he remains a regular on the summer festival circuit.
