Jamalco move within a point of South Central title
HAYES, Clarendon — Jamalco took control of the South Central Confederation Super League play-offs title race following a 9-0 drubbing of Appleton Estate at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in the penultimate round of games in midweek.
The victory means the defending champions are level on 13 points with Portmore United, but the Clarendon side lead the four-team competition courtesy of a superior goal difference.
Portmore, who led coming into this round of fixtures, thrashed Hillstars 5-0 at the Ferdie Neita Park in Braeton, St Catherine. But that result was not good enough to retain the advantage going into Sunday’s title-deciding game with Jamalco in Clarendon.
Jamalco only need a draw in that game to retain their title and book a place in the National Premier League play-offs for a second successive season.
Meanwhile, St Elizabeth champions Appleton Estate, following their fifth consecutive defeat, are all but certain to finish the play-offs at the bottom of the table.
They would need to beat Hillstars, who occupy third place on three points, by eight clear goals to clinch third.
