First JAAA All-Comers Development Meet on today
THE first Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) All-Comers Development Meet is scheduled for today at the National Stadium starting at 7:00 pm.
The All-Comers Meets are designed to give both senior and junior athletes invaluable preparations heading into the National Championships in June.
There will be five meets in all with the last one being held on June 13, the week before the junior trials.
There will be seven track events and three field events. Events on are the 100m, 400m, 1,500m, 110/100m hurdles, long jump, javelin and shot put for both sexes.
Entry fee is $300 per athlete on line and must be completed by noon today, while it will cost $400 per person for track side registration which starts at 1:00 pm today at the Stadium East field.
Last year there were some outstanding performances with UTech’s Julian Forte running a sizzling 10.03 seconds over the 100m, which was the sixth fastest time in the world at that time.
Rusheed McDonald of UTech warmed up in the men’s 400m with 45.51 seconds, while Antiguan Daniel Bailey stopped the clock at 20.59 in the 200m.
In the women’s 200m, Anastacia Le-Roy was quickest with 23.34 seconds, while UTech’s Shericka Jackson did 52.33 seconds in the 400m.
Although there is no confirmation as yet, a lot of Jamaica’s top athletes will turn up today as they fine-tune their preparations for the rest of the year.
