Jamalco, Portmore meet in title-deciding play-off game
HAYES, Clarendon — South Central’s representative in the National Premier League play-offs will be decided this evening when Jamalco FC and Portmore United meet in the Confederation’s title-deciding play-off game at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Hayes, Clarendon.
In the other game, Hillstars and Appleton Estate will meet in the bottom-of-the-table clash at the Appleton Sports Complex in St Elizabeth.
Kick-off is set for four o’clock at both venues.
Hosts Jamalco and Portmore head into the finale tied at the top of the four-team competition on 13 points each. But as things stand, Jamalco are in pole position to advance to the Premier League play-offs. They lead Portmore by goal difference and need only a point from this game to retain their Confederation title.
And if their first-round meeting in Braeton, St Catherine is anything to go by, then Jamalco can count themselves as the favourites, having held Portmore to a 1-1 stalemate at the Ferdie Neita Park.
But the five-time National Premier League champions, who are eyeing an immediate return to the top flight, will also fancy themselves to get the job done on the road, where they have so far scored five goals in two victories — albeit against Hillstars and Appleton.
