Coopers Pen secure top spot in Trelawny Major League
COOPERS PEN, Trelawny — Coopers Pen have secured the number one spot in the semi-finals of the Trelawny Football Association Monymusk Plantation Rum Major League after avenging their mid-season loss at Spicy Hill with a 2-0 win in their third-round, cross-zone game on Sunday.
Coopers Pen’s 12th win in 14 games this season took them to 37 points, 11 more than their closest opponents, and have locked up the top spot in the semi-finals with two sets of games still to be played.
The goals came late in the game with Shammaine Stoney scoring in the 72nd minute and Valbert Campbell in the 87th minute.
Clarks Town, who beat Flames 3-1 over the weekend, could move closer to a semi-final place today when they take on Classic United in one rescheduled game at Hyde Sports Grounds, while Upsetters FC and Baca Star United, both trying to avoid relegation, will meet at Carey Park.
Clarks Town are on 26 points and in second place on goal difference, ahead of Spicy Hill with a game in hand.
On Sunday, Dhane Johnson scored a double in the 33rd and 70th minutes, with Lloyd James scoring in the 60th minute to take them to a 3-1 win over Flames FC. Brad Johnson scored for Flames in the 55th minute, tying up the score at 1-1 at the time.
