Christians too silent on child abuse
Dear Editor,
What will it take for Jamaican Christian groups to mount demonstrations, block roads, and call down brimstone and fire on sick, evil child molesters?
Children’s issues have been the single most important thing dominating local news since January 1, 2015. Yet no road is blocked, no full-page ad is taken out, and no Emancipation Park protest from any church or Christian-aligned group.
Just last week a pastor in Westmoreland was charged with carnal abuse. Where’s the condemnation at the unfolding situation involving our children. The Wayne West-led Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society does not realise that the society cannot be healthy with the continued abuse of our children? Or is it that ‘health’ is only compromised by homosexuality?
And, too, Daniel Thomas, you and your Love March Movement? Where is the voice, march and movement, even love, to denounce, with the same energy, issues affecting children? Wouldn’t the little ones love to see your activism dedicated to improving their situation?
You zealots show your contempt by continuing to pretend that other issues do not require the same or arguably greater fervency you apply to protests against the same sex agenda, as is your right.
What is outrageous and scandalous is that these and other Christian groups continue the same jaundiced behaviour, even as the public constantly calls them out on their hypocrisy. The violence and abuse against our children, the oh so sad cases that have been presented in media and, my God, not one word, no sustained voice from the Christian groups calling for stiffer penalties, etc. When will you begin to be true Christians?
