We know not what we do
Dear Editor,
It was foolish of the anti-gay protestors to recently imply that the US president’s visit to Jamaica in April included motives to advance the gay rights agenda in Jamaica. This anti-gay group, which is largely Christian-based, is losing sight of their focal point of reference, which is Jesus Christ, and instead of being as humble as a dove and as wise as a serpent, they are becoming too political.
Notwithstanding, the anti-gay marriage and anti-buggery effort is still critical, and somebody has to do it, but I cannot imagine the prime minister of Jamaica officially addressing the nation about an impending “threat of homosexuality” as she did recently concerning children’s safety and rights.
I am even still wondering about the influence which former Prime Minister Bruce Golding’s “not in my Cabinet” comment in a British media interview had on him being “forcibly asked” to demit office. But so say some.
We must continue to boldly support that which is righteous, even as the unrighteous seek to eliminate that which hinders or illuminates their intentions. In the same breath, we must keep focus. Like many other things, such as adultery, homosexuality is wrong, nothing more and nothing less. It is a good thing that we are not the ones to “send down the fire”, because we would burn up everybody, including ourselves. Just as how heterosexual partners need our prayers and the Lord’s help, so do homosexuals.
May God have mercy on those who “know not what they do” such as the Peters, the Pharisees, the Judases and the Romans, but may His ire consume those who do.
