Gore returns in August
THE big news out of Monday’s Total Quartz Daryl King Memorial Meet at Dover Raceway in St Ann is that high-flying racer Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore intends to make his return to circuit racing in August.
“I’m just itching to get back behind the driver’s seat,” Gore told Auto.
Gore’s Audi TT-R DTM was totalled in February ahead of the opening round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship at JamWest Speedway, Westmoreland.
Monday’s revelation was the first indication of a repair timeline. The driver said unlike its May 2012 crash, the vehicle will not be shipped away to ABT Sportsline, but repaired locally.
“I’ve been in constant contact with both ABT and the former owner, and all the parts necessary for repair are here in Jamaica. They will come here and provide guidance,” he said.
According to Gore, the car simply won’t be repaired, but upgraded with the latest DTM aerodynamic improvement and giving it the visual appearance of the 2015 Audi TT.
He said, on his return, his mission is to lower the Dover Raceway lap record of 1:17.019 he set in October 2014.
“There will be ECU and calibrations changes as well, but I’ve been guaranteed lap times in the 1 minute 16 second range,” he added.
Meanwhile, the red cars of Total Summerbell Racing team — minus Andre Anderson whose car is still in the repairs — dominated the meet. David Summerbell Jr took two Thundersport class two (TS2) races. Peter Rae, who won the opening TS2 race, denied Summerbell Jr of three wins.
Kyle Gregg got a clean sweep of Modified Production class two (MP2), winning all three of his races.
The rest of victories were scattered across the field. Alan Chen also swept TS1. Matthew Gore, making a return with new sponsor Grab ‘N Go, was the best of the MP1 drivers, taking two of the three race wins available.
The clean sweeps continued with Dayne Chuck in Improved Production and Fraser McConnell in Bracket 35. Vivian Mitchell took two Bracket 29 (B29) race wins to Dean Corrodus’s one. B39 saw Robin Sutherland do the same to Brian Shor.
For the bikers, Andre Rickards won all motorcycle class B races, while Kyle Reynolds and David Bell won two class A races each.
