Mona take early lead at Prep Champs
MONA after one final are the early leader with 16 points in the 38th staging of the 2015 Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA)/Seprod Preparatory Schools Athletics Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.
The championships had to be postponed due to persistent heavy downpour on the track.
Weather permitting, the championships will continue this morning, with an 8:30 am start.
In second position after a day of the three-day championships are Vaz with six points, followed by Our Lady of the angels with six also, defending champions Hydel four, Portmore Missionary 2.5, and Sts Peter and Paul on 2.5 points..
Meanwhile, Yared McDonald of Mona was the winner of the Class Two boys high jump with a leap of 1.45 metres from his teammate Javaughn Barrett who finished with 1.45m, with third-place going to Christopher Seaton of Vaz with 1.25 metres.
Wozeiro Richards of Vaz is expected to lead the Class One girls in the 100-metre semi-finals where she finished with the fastest time of 13.58 seconds. Her teammate Raevonn Morris has the next fastest time from the heats of 13.74 seconds and Kayla Harris of Hydel with 13.80 seconds.
The fastest time done in the Class Two girls 100-metre heats was by Timika Scartlett of Belair with 13.29 seconds, followed by Arianna Golding of Hydel with 14.05 seconds and Abigail Nembhard of Mona with 14.15 seconds.
The finals to be contested today are Class One boys long jump, Class Two girls high jump, Class One girls high jump and girls Class One long jump.
