TWO HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY
Two horses were claimed on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday. The Gordon Lewis-trained Real Vibes Machine was claimed by Phillips Lee for Deleta Brewster for $180,000, and Aunt Hilda was taken from Robert Alveranga by Patrick Fong for Wilbert Bagwandeen also for $180,000 from the fifth race.
A WIN FOR ROBERT ALVERANGA
Trainer Robert Alveranga, who has been finding it hard to saddle winners, finally notched his first winner for the year from six attempts. His win came when four-year-old Aunt Hilda, with Orayne Sewell in the saddle, made all to win the fifth race comfortably going over 1,000 metres round in a time of 1:01:0 minutes.
GEISHA’S GLORY, MERLIN BEAT THE ODDS
It is not very often that we see a horse winning the first time of asking in the class above. Such was the case on Saturday with Geisha’s Glory and Merlin. Trained by Robert Pearson and ridden by Paul Francis, Geisha’s Glory, who was coming off back-to-back wins at the maiden and non-winners of two levels, easily dispatched her six non-winners of three rivals by four-and-a-half lengths over 1,400 metres. The Edward Walker – trained Merlin, also ridden by Francis, stepped boldly in front in a non-winners of two event and won by two-and-three-quarter lengths over 1,820 metres in a decent 1:57:3 minutes. It was a most impressive win by Merlin which capped a very productive month for trainer Walker.
RARE WINNER FOR CHALRICK BUDHAI
Jockey Chalrick Budhai has been at the Park on a regular basis but he doesn’t get a lot of rides. On Saturday he notched his first winner for the year from only two rides.
His glory came in the last race when he piloted the Gordon Lewis-trained Silent Storm to a half-length victory over Swift Gold and General Togo over 1,400 metres. Good to see you in the winner’s enclosure, Mr Buhai, and hope you with make more visits there.
MAKE WAY …THERE’S A FIRE ALARM
Fire Alarm, racing for only the third time and the first time since March 11, released the maiden tag in quite convincing fashion over the five straight course on Saturday. Ridden by Rayan Wilson and trained by Paul Smith, Fire Alarm broke away from his 13 rivals after three furlongs and just kept on going further and further away for a facile six-length victory over Bimini and Alycinth. The winning time was an impressive 58.1 seconds.
