French embassy to host public meeting on climate change
IN preparation for the high-level global debate on climate change and related environment issues scheduled for Paris in December, the Embassy of France in Jamaica is seeking to educate Jamaicans on the issues.
To that end, it will host a town hall meeting at the JAMPRO head office, 18 Trafalgar Road, Kingston 10 from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm next Monday, June 8.
The Paris meeting will be the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It will be seeking to, among other things, have industrialised countries agree to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by sufficient amounts to keep global temperatures from rising by more than 2 degrees.
The French embassy’s workshop is being dubbed ‘Climate Change in Jamaica’ and will feature presentations from experts, as well as a question and answer segment for the public.
“(We want to) sensitise the audience and exchange some concrete facts about climate change in Jamaica,” the embassy said.
