#GivesMeLife
Television shows are a big hit nowadays; that is, unless you’ve been living on Mars. As it is now, it is common place for there to be individuals bustling home to catch the latest episode of their favourite TV show; or the endless passionate conversations between friends about the massive plot twist last night; or teens spending hours glued to their laptop screens, trying to finish watching all of season one, before the new season starts. There are a lot of series out there, that people watch for a plethora of reasons, whether it is: the drama, understanding the way of life of another set of people, or to be inspired by a certain character. Here are some of the series that are giving our writers and guests life right now:
Delus: Walking Dead #givesmelife. When I watch it, I think, “What if this really happened?” It also features characters within each character.Meaning, when they start out, they are weak and think that they cannot do something, but when it comes to the test, they do it.
Louis Davis: How To Get Away With Murder #givesmelife. The plot line is fantastic. There are so many twists and turns; and just when you think you know what’s going on, the whole game changes on you. Plus, viola Davis is the ‘boss-tress’.
Jodian Downs: Being Mary Jane #givesmelife life because it is so relatable. I can relate to most of the issues faced be the lead character, Mary Jane (played by Gabrielle Union). She also sort of inspires me, as she is a young, single black woman in society.
Kesi Mortley: Skins #givesmelife. The characters’ lives are ‘messed up’, and I can relate.
Di-Andra Brown: The Walking Dead #givesmelife. I love the dynamics of the show, It always has me on the edge of my seat, wanting more. I get emotionally involved with all the characters and I’m not ashamed to say that some of the deaths on the show have made me ‘bawl’.
Candiece Knight: Devious Maids #givesmelife. I like the fact that it has mystery in it, but not too much to give me nightmares. I also like the fact that they wrap up each case by the end of each season. It’s also hilarious, and explores themes of love, friendship, and shows the struggles of immigrants who do menial jobs in the US.
Monique Edwards Davis: The Blacklist #givesmelife. There is nobody more devious than Raymond “Redd” Reddington (unless you’ve met The Count of Monte Criste). Redd, (played by James Spader), has his hand in everything, and the machinations are slowly, and teasingly revealed every episode. He moves from being the FBI’s most wanted to its greatest asset, in catching people below him on the list. Every character is nuanced and can shape-shift every three episodes (or so). I’m excited just writing this!
Shantal Pellington: Empire #givesmelife. It’s the best black TV show ever! The plot and acting are superb; and the actors are fine!
Javell Mothersill: Bad Girl’s Club #givesmelife. The plot is superb. It always has you speculating about different things; and I like that.
Sicourney Jackson: Empire #givesmelife. When watching it, you want to know what’s going to happen next, but at the same time you don’t want to know; because it just might shock you.
Trevann Hamilton: Pretty Little Liars is the series I keep up with. It #givesmelife because the plot twists and the show creator keeps it interesting for someone like me, who reads books.
