Portia shines at official rebranding ceremony for Sandals Ochi Beach Resort
LET ME SHARE THIS ONE WITH YOU, PM: Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller
is momentarily detained by Gary Sadler, Sandals vice-president of worldwide
sales, who, no doubt, was regaling her with one of his famous impersonations.

Portia shines at official rebranding ceremony for Sandals Ochi Beach Resort

The official rebranding ceremony for Sandals Ochi Beach Resort was not only a moment for Sandals boss Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart to shine, but for Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to charm the hundreds in attendance Monday evening in Ocho Rios, the St Ann tourist resort town.

Whether she was flashing her trademark girlish smile, out-running her security detail or hugging the eager guests who lined up to greet her, Madam Prime Minister was at her charismatic best, heavy late-evening rains notwithstanding.

And Jamaica Observer senior photographer Joseph Wellington kept his lens trained on her throughout the night:

DID YOU HEAR
THIS ONE,
PM? Prime
Minister Portia
Simpson Miller
in a delighted
exchange with
Sandals CEO
Adam Stewart
(left) and
Chairman
Gordon ‘Butch’
Stewart at the
official
rebranding
ceremony for
Sandals Ochi
Beach Resort.
THAT’S A REALLY BIG PAIR OF SCISSORS! Sandals chairman Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart (third left) jokes about
the scissors used to cut the ribbon to symbolically mark the official rebranding of the Sandals Ochi Beach
Resort, formerly Sandals Ocho Rios, as Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller (fourth left) and Opposition
spokesperson on tourism Shahine Robinson join in. Also participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony from left
are: Damion Crawford, state minister of tourism; St Ann’s Bay Mayor Desmond Gilmore; Adam Stewart, CEO
of Sandals; and Sandals Ochi Beach Resort general manager Ramal Sobrino.
THE RUNNING
WOMAN: Jamaican
Prime Minister Portia
Simpson Miller in full
stride as she runs,
security detail nowhere
in picture, towards the
podium to deliver her
address at the official
rebranding ceremony
for the Sandals Ochi
Beach Resort.
A BELLYFUL OF LAUGHTER: Whatever Prime Minister Portia
Simpson Miller (left) is telling them, Member of Parliament
Karl Samuda and his wife enjoy a bellyful of laughter.
