Turks & Caicos reserves ruling in David Smith extradition case
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Convicted Jamaican Ponzie scheme fraudster David Smith is to know on June 18 whether the Turks and Caicos Island will extradite him to the US where he is wanted for financial crimes.
Magistrate Clifton Warner a short while ago reserved ruling on the matter at the end of an extradition hearing.
In January, Smith was released from prison after having served a portion of his six-year jail term in the Turks and Caicos.
He was arrested shortly after on a provisional warrant, denied bail and sent back to jail to await a formal request from the US for his extradition.
Smith, who initially operated his company Olint in Jamaica, was charged and subsequently convicted of multiple counts of wire fraud and money laundering in the TCI in 2010 and then the US in 2011.
He is being represented by Oliver Smith and Kimone Pennant.
